Craig is a graduate student majoring in Information and Telecommunications Management and has over a decade of experience in broadcasting, new media, and media production before coming back to Michigan State.  Craig’s focus is on the management and economics of the creative marketplace, and how the current industry transition could positively affect the business of compelling storytelling.

Qi is a graduate student pursuing her master degree in Telecommunication, Information Studies, & Media. Qi currently focuses on digital media design. She is from Shandong province of China. Various internships in radio stations, magazines and high-tech companies drove her to pursue further study in media industry.

Jan Boehmer

Recipient: Jan Boehmer

Jan is a graduate student who will persue his Ph.D. in Media and Information Studies. He holds a degree in Online Journalism from the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences in Germany and has worked as a writer and editor for TV stations, newspapers and websites. He will focus on the interplay between Social Media and Journalism.

Daniel DeMaiolo

Recipient: Daniel DeMaiolo

Daniel is a graduate student pursuing his Master of Arts degree in Digital Media Arts & Technology with an emphasis on game design.  Graduating Summa Cum Laude and as a University Scholar, he received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Youngstown State University with a double major in Advertising/Public Relations and Marketing Management.  During his time at YSU, he served as a Student Trustee on the Youngstown State University Board of Trustees, worked at New Vision Television as a Promotion/Production Intern, and researched the potential of virtual worlds for higher education and advertising as well as the impact of faculty-led study abroad on student success.  Currently, he serves as a game design instructor for the ITEC after-school program in the Lansing school district and is an active member of Spartasoft.  He hopes to obtain a position with a game design company upon graduation.

Derek DeMaiolo

Recipient: Derek DeMaiolo

Derek is a graduate student pursuing his Master of Arts degree in Digital Media Arts and Technology focusing most of his coursework on game development.  Originally from Youngstown, Ohio, Derek received his Bachelor of Science in Applied Science in Media and Interface Design from Youngstown State University in May 2010 graduating Summa Cum Laude and as a University Scholar.  During his undergraduate program, Derek worked as a graphic design/web design intern for the Youngstown Swish, a local basketball team, and conducted research for his Honors thesis on the effects of faculty-led study abroad experiences on students that participate.  He is a current member of Spartasoft and serves as a lead game design instructor for the ITEC after-school programs in the Lansing school district.  Upon graduation, Derek hopes to pursue a position in game art or design with a game development company.

Curtis Matzke

Recipient: Curtis Matzke

Curtis is a first year DMAT Masters student who graduated last year with a B.A in Media Arts and Technology, as well as a specialization in Design. Curtis is interested in all aspects of filmmaking, particularly writing, cinematography, and directing. Curtis has worked on several types of media projects and films, including larger student productions such as the Creative Film Alliance film "Appleville" last summer, as well as a few professional films that have come to Michigan in recent years.

Karl Phillips

Recipient: Karl Phillips

Karl is a graduate student, pursuing his masters in Telecommunication, Information Studies and Media. He serves as an intern with the MSU Today team providing content for the Big Ten network. Karl also volunteers with Break the Cycle a Non-profit organization that addressing the literacy and personal development needs of youth and young adults in low-income neighborhoods across America. His work includes short films and several documentaries.

Shan Yang

Shan Yang is a graduate student in Information and Telecommunication Management after acquiring a B.A degree in Fudan University in China. He has worked within several fields of TV media including internship in Central China Television (CCTV). He plans to pursue a career in media production and design.

Yeon Hee (Johnny) is a senior in Media and Communication Technology major,and will be graduating in fall2011. His future goal is working withTV broadcasting or in media management. He had various internshipexperiences at the Expo and Korea broadcast station as Assistant Film Maker. After graduation, he wants to build up his career in the field of Media, and keep continuing his study at the graduate school.

Jeff is an undergraduate student majoring in Media Arts & Technologies with a concentration in TV, Cinema, and Radio. He is currently producing, acting, and editing the show “Horse Feathers Comedy” with his friends and is interning for the show “Backstage Pass” at WKAR. Jeff has always had a passion for entertainment and is determined to work hard to allow that passion to translate into a great deal of success in the entertainment industry.

Carl Munson is an undergraduate student specializing in Media Management and Research. He has a special interest in Social and New Media and is excited to see how things will be developing in the near future.

Ben Owen

Ben is a junior pursuing his bachelor's degree in Media Arts and Technology. Ben is active around campus. He is apart of MSU Telecasters where he edits for The Giraffe House. Ben works as a Student Supervisor for East Neighborhood Guest Services. He also works as a crew member for Big Ten Network Student U and as a tour guide for Inside MSU. Ben hopes to one day be involved in sports media.

Ryan is a sophomore majoring in Media Arts and Technology with a specialization in Game Design and Development. He is actively involved in Spartan Christian Fellowship and creates short videos throughout the school year in order to promote events. He has some experience in 2D animation and is interested in pursuing some type of interactive media career.

Kendall will be a senior pursing a Media Arts and Technology degree. She is currently an intern at Spartan Internet Consulting in Lansing.  She hopes to further her communication skills in the Web industry and has started to design and develop websites of her own. Kendall also registered a new student group on campus this year called the Spartan Golf Club.

Colin Marshall is a sophomore at Michigan State University. Well, sort of... Colin is currently on tour with Ozzy Osbourne as his tour videographer, but intends to return to school for the fall 2011 semester. His experience on tour and at MSU has shaped a craving to produce and direct live concert videos for superstar recording artists. For him, it's the perfect combination between doing what he's good at, while still enjoying awesome live music. Pretty cool, right? Colin would also like to continue working on The Giraffe House, which is the best show he's ever worked on, ever. His other interests include biking, slam poetry, and gummy worms.

Kenita is pursuing a second degree in Media Arts & Technology. She recently dedicated one year of community service to the Michigan Foreclosure Corps; giving back to families hardest hit by the housing crisis. She envisions herself converging the fast growing field of media with nonprofits across the U.S. in order to increase their visibility and the quality of life for families in need.

Recipient: Ashley Madau

Ashley Madau is a Media and Communications Junior focusing on both web and graphic design. She is driven by her passion for the media, and has taken it a step further by launching her own online design studio in 2008. Ashley has been a project manager apart of the SWAT (Spartan Web Authoring Team), secretary for the MSU chapter of AIGA, and a 2011 Addy Award recipient.

Justin Martin

Justin will be a senior in the fall majoring in Media Arts & Technology.   Justin hopes to be a video coordinator of a professional or collegiate sports team in the future.  His love of sports and experiences with the Michigan State Football team as a Video Intern has inspired him to follow this career path.

Samantha Hannum

Recipient: Samantha Hannum

Samantha Hannum will be a sophomore as of Fall 2011 and is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media and Information. She is interning at Verde Styles and has just received her invitation to participate in the Disney College Program in Disney World, Florida for the fall semester. During her freshman year she became a member of the Telecasters, was invited to be a Student Ambassador for the Communication Arts and Sciences college, and is a part of Sigma Kappa Sorority, who recently won Greek Week and has the highest GPA of Greek Life on campus. Her aspiration is to be a news anchor and news reporter for Entertainment News.

Ben is a Junior pursing a degree in Media Arts and Technology and is enrolled in both the Game Design and Fiction Film Specializations. He is currently working toward becoming a professional 3D modeler and hopes to create assets for video games and feature films. As a member of the Honors College Ben is academically active, but he also has a wide range of interests outside of school work including running, video games, drawing, photography, and playing the violin.

Allie Hock is a junior studying Media Arts & Technology with a specialization in Fiction Film. While at MSU, Allie has been a member of the telecasters, served as the production assistant on a feature film and is a varsity cross country athlete.  Allie ultimately hopes to use media as a tool to inspire individuals and communities to promote positive change.

Josh Rickert

Josh is junior majoring in Media Arts and Technology with a Specialization in Design. He is in the Honors College and is also a member of WDBM, the Impact, where he is a DJ and a member of the production staff. Though he is experienced in a range of media, he specializes in audio, and he is currently exploring the possibility of applying this toward film.
