Spotlight on Troy Hale
Troy joined the TISM faculty in January of 2008, coming from Minneapolis' Fox Affiliate, KMSP. Since arriving at MSU, Troy has been busy creating segments about MSU academic and student life for the Big Ten Network. The first of his segments, focusing on MSU Study Abroad, has aired on BTN and can be seen on the MSU Today web page (click on the image at right to view this segment ). To see more Big Ten Network segments, visit MSU Today's MSU on TV page.
He has received 14 Emmys for his television work, including four while at KMSP and two while working for WSYX in Columbus, Ohio. He recently received a National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) Best of Photojournalism national contest award. For more on this award, check out the CAS new story on it.
An avid film maker, Troy and his wife, Nicky, run their own production company, Tricky Hale Films. They have produced three films that have been shown at prominent film festivals, including "It's just too small" (Ft. Myers Beach Film Festival Official Selection and Frankly Film Festival Honorable Mention for Audience Choice), "Hold Please" (Charlotte Film Festival and the MITTEN Movie Project), and the documentary "ASAP" (MITTEN Movie Project).
Troy is also active with PressPass.TV, an Internet sports TV station. He creates video documentaries on unique sports and sports figures. For an example, check out Troy's show on summer ski jumping in St. Paul, Minnesota, or his wild ride in Rally car with Tim Penasack at the Ojibwe Forests Rally.
Students will be working with Troy in TC 341, Film Style Production for Cinema and Television, this coming Fall semester. Welcome, Troy!
