Award winners and facultyThe third annual TISM Award Ceremony took place Tuesday evening, April  24, 2012, and honored both scholarship award winners and outstanding graduate students. Students and their families celebrated in style while faculty presented awards.

The night kicked off with an amusing introduction by Steven Wildman, then segued into a recognition of student group achievements. SpartaSoft, MSU Telecasters, and ASCOT (Associated Students for Career Orientation in Telecommunications) were honored. The faculty advisor for each group recognized key leaders in the organization and described the group's successes from the year. The groups' achievements are impressive and wouldn't be possible without strong leadership from the outstanding students that choose to step up to the challenge.

Outstanding PhD and MA Student Awards followed the student group achievements. These graduate students were singled out due to their innovation in the fields of research and undergrad instruction. Each student has made a significant impact on the department.

The largest portion of the ceremony, however, took place to honor those students who received scholarships. In all, 14 scholarships were awarded, ranging from $500 to $2,000. All the scholarships are to be used for the 2012-2013 academic year. The scholarships are made possible by generous donors and provide much-needed funding to the students, rewarding them for diligent work in the past and yet to come, and in some cases, also serving as a reminder of the achievements of past students, alumni, or faculty from the TISM department.

Congratulations to all of the outstanding TISM students!
