Fiction Film Specialization

The Specialization in Fiction Film Production educates undergraduates at Michigan State University in the history, theory, and production of Fiction Film. The specialization combines practical skills in production with conceptual training in film studies—two disciplinary approaches that are mutually enriching and illuminating. By bringing production and analysis together students can produce theoretically informed work that gives them a cutting edge understanding of the challenges of creating quality film experiences.

Offered By: The specialization is administered jointly by the College of Arts and Letters and College of Communication Arts and Sciences.  The College of Arts & Letters is the lead administrative unit.

Who is the Specialization for?

Students enrolled in bachelor's programs at Michigan State University are eligible to apply for the specialization if they are sophomores in good standing.

The primary pool of students that the specialization will draw from will be in Media and Information in the Department of Telecommunication, Information Studies, and Media and The Department of English. However, students in other academic disciplines are encouraged to apply as long as they are enrolled in bachelor’s degree programs at Michigan State University and are in good standing.

In order to apply for the specialization, students must have successfully completed the required prerequisite courses (3.0 or higher) OR successful completion of one of the prerequisite courses and current enrollment in the second. You must apply and get accepted into this program in order to complete the specialization. Students will apply for the Specialization in Spring of their sophomore year. To apply, students must submit an application, available on the CAS Academic and Student Affairs website, by the Friday before Spring Break. Applications will be reviewed and decisions made before by a subset of the core faculty who teach in the specialization. Students will be notified of their acceptance before the beginning of Scheduled Enrollment.
